Cree language

The Cree form an aboriginal nation of North America. They range from the Rocky Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean in both Canada and the United States. Their ancestral Cree language was once the most widely spoken in northern North America, but now not all Crees are fluent in it. English and French are more commonly used.

Cree Homes

Depending on the religion in which they lived. The Cree had mainly two types of homes. In wooded areas, the Cree lived in birch bark homes called wigmans. On the prairies, the Cree lived in tipis, which were tents covered in bison skin. Both structures were made from wooden frames and were used to shelter their inhabitants from wind, rain, and snow.

Cree War, Hunting, weapons

Warfare: The Plains Cree were always at war with the Blackfoot and the Lakota. Most of the time the Plains Cree warriors tried to capture horses from an enemy's camp. This way they gained respect among their own people. The Eastern Cree, however, often went to war to take lives.
HUNTING: Hunters of moose, caribou, bear and beaver. Smaller games such as hare were crucial to survival, along with geese and other waterfowl. Berry-picking in warmer weather. Fishing and plant growth very limited. Weather conditions, particularly in the winter were very harsh. As was the case with all Native groups, hunting was a spiritual activity as well as a necessary one; prior to the start of the hunt, there were appropriate ceremonies that included, the laying down of tobacco, placing small pieces of meat in a fire, drums and songs, plus the care of the bones were all observed. These practices ensured a good harvest and gave respect the 'gift' of the animal.
Weapons: The most famous Cree weapon was the bow and arrow. The Crees used bows and arrows for both hunting and war. Other Cree weapons included spears, clubs, and knives. When Plains Cree men hunted buffalo, they sometimes used controlled fires to herd the animals into a trap or over a cliff. The Northern Cree hunter in this picture is using a special birchbark instrument to make sounds that attract moose. The East Crees used bone fishhooks and nets for fishing.
And don’t forget the tomahawk!!!!!
